Working and Remaining
in the Defence Sector

As you will be aware, careers in the Ministry of Defence are exciting, interesting and very varied.  Whether your experience has been within the Armed Forces or the Civil Service, there may come a time when you are faced with the decision of whether to move to a commercial role outside of the MOD.

However, as an MOD in the Civil Service you may wish to continue your service, and not consider other career paths.  Likewise you may be at the early stages of your Armed Forces career and want to know more about developing your Career within the Defence Sector.

Your next career move may well be right in front of you, within the MOD

Remaining in the Defence Sector Beyond Service

It may be prudent at this point, to point out the obvious, you all have something in common, well a few things:

  • For whatever reason, at some point you will leave your current engagement or service.
  • 95% of those that leave will serve longer in the commercial sector, than they did as a servant for the crown.
  • Some will struggle with the lack of identity, belonging and not being able to leave your uniform behind.

So for some it feels right to have that connection with the organisation that they have been part of for such a long time.

We personally believe though, that there are so many governmental organisations out there that proactively recruit Ex Service People, Reserves, Veterans and Spouses. we felt it only right that here at IoSCM we make you aware of some of the organisations that are forces friendly, and proactively look to recruit from the Armed Forces sector.

As we go onto explain, there is so much to look at and consider, that we could right about this section for hours, instead what have done is looked at a couple of different options, that you may to choose to explore.
